2009 Annual Meeting

Widespread interest in service initiatives;

Board slate reelected

Interest in the SCA’s new service initiatives was widespread in a standing-room-only crowd at July 9’s annual general membership meeting, held at Grace Presbyterian Church on Tice Valley Blvd. Between membership applications and “interest forms” returned at the meeting, 68 people expressed an interest in Neighbors Helping Neighbors, the SCA’s new mutual-help program, and 40 in the Children’s Toy & Clothing Boutique. (Some expressed an interest in both.)

The annual meeting is also when SCA members vote for members of the organization’s board of directors. The five candidates nominated by the SCA board were reelected and an alternate board member was elected.
An audience of about 180 viewed a PowerPoint presentation on the Toy & Clothing Boutique by SCA Service Committee Chair Stephanie Monson. SCA Vice President Tighe O’Hanrahan and Dawn White followed with a PowerPoint presentation on the Neighbors program.
SCA President Lee Schroeder also announced a new SCA project, the free Property-Improvement Workshop for Saranap home and business owners. Five people indicated an interest in the workshop, which will be held this fall or winter, when we’ve publicized it more widely.
The five board candidates nominated by the SCA’s Nomination and Election committee, all incumbents, were reelected. They are Jonathan Becker, Tighe O’Hanrahan, Jim Piepergerdes, Mimi Salamat, and Scott Wallace. Chris Schroeder was elected as an alternate, which means he will fill a board vacancy if one occurs between now and next year’s election. (Chris, a long-time Saranap resident, is Lee Schroeder’s son.)
A detail of Boy Scouts from Troop 1811 opened the meeting with a flag ceremony, leading the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance.
As of July 9, SCA membership stood at 247.
