SCA’s New Community Service Initiatives
There are big changes in the works for the Saranap Community Association, and we hope you’ll be a part of them. While the SCA board will continue to work diligently to preserve the unique character of the Saranap, at the same time we’ll be expanding the scope of our work to include a range of new community service projects to improve the quality of life for those of us who live here. We’ll be providing a structure, support, and resources for a variety of activities. Among those suggested so far are
- services to seniors to help them continue to live independently (visits, running errands, preparing meals, shopping, transportation, home- and yard-maintenance projects)
- a “surrogate grandparent” program linking young people with older residents
- projects for young families and single parents (a directory of local babysitters, a mothers club for those at home with infants and toddlers, a babysitting / childcare cooperative)
- disaster-response training, Neighborhood Watch
- food and clothing drives.
You can help by completing the Saranap Community Needs and Interests Survey. On it you can help us identify needs that exist in the neighborhood—and indicate areas in which you might be interested in volunteering.
The SCA board needs your help too.
The SCA board of directors is looking for people who can aid us in our work—helping us review building-project applications the county forwards to us for comment, organizing and managing community service projects, and assisting in the day-to-day operation of the board. We’re looking for people with expertise in these areas who are willing to donate a few hours of their time every month:
- legal
- financial
- nonprofit management
- database management
- Website management.
We’ll be adding several members to our board in the months to come, most of whom will be drawn from among those volunteering in the areas outlined above or those with related experience with other community organizations.
