Community Meeting #2 on
Sufism Reoriented’s Proposed Sanctuary:
Answers to Questions, More Comments
About 150 Saranap residents gathered at Grace Presbyterian Church on Tice Valley Blvd. Jan. 15 for the SCA’s second community meeting about Sufism Reoriented’s proposed Boulevard Way sanctuary and gardens. The meeting served two purposes: to respond to questions raised at the first meeting, in November, and to provide a forum for additional comments. Some of those questions were for the county staff, some were for Sufism Reoriented, and some for the SCA board of directors.
We’re transcribing and collating our notes and will be summarizing responses here soon. Please check back in a week or so.
Those who attended Jan. 15 were given a handout that outlines the county’s approval process. You can download a copy here.
We know that many of our Saranap neighbors are curious about the status of Sufism Reoriented’s land use application. The Jan. 15 handout describes a nine-step process (11 if there is an appeal). Sufism Reoriented’s application has not yet been deemed complete by the county—so the process is still in step 1.
Community Meeting #3. The third community meeting on the Sufism Reoriented project will be held as early as possible in the 20- or 30-day comment period following the county’s publication of its Initial Study (formally known as the California Environmental Quality Act Initial Study and Review for County Requirements). We’ll have a very short window of time in which to schedule and hold that meeting.
If you’d like us to e-mail you when we’ve set the date, please send an e-mail request to Scott.Saranap@Gmail.com , noting “Community Meeting Notice Request” in the subject line. We’ll also post information about the meeting here on the SCA Website.
