Toy & Clothing Boutique
Featured in National Magazine

The SCA’s Children’s Toy & Clothing Boutique was featured in an article in the July 7 issue of Woman’s Day “honoring moms who are stepping up to help others in these financially tough times.” Stephanie Monson, chair of the SCA’s Service Committee, was one of three “recession angels” featured in the article.

The Boutique is an opportunity for parents to take home “gently used” clothing, toys and books without spending a cent—and to find appreciative homes for things their children have outgrown. There is no admission charge, everything is free, and it isn’t necessary to donate something in order to take something. In fact, visitors are encouraged to take whatever they can use.
Woman’s Day reaches some 22 million readers nationwide. “We’re grateful that they chose to feature the Toy & Clothing Boutique,” Stephanie says. “We feel that it could serve as a model not only in difficult economic times, but also beyond. With such busy lives, we can become isolated from our neighbors. Projects like this give people an opportunity to get together to help one another. People today are looking for this kind of community.”
Known as the Toy & Clothing Exchange when the Woman’s Day article was written, the seasonal event has since been renamed the Free Clothing & Toy Boutique to reflect the event’s setting and atmosphere.
The next Boutique is scheduled for Sept. 27 and will feature cool-weather clothing and Halloween costumes. Information will be posted here.
